Fun + Coolness = Miss Marc. Loving Marc Jacobs's Miss Marc Line!

Marc Jacobs has been a hot topic in the fashion world in recent years, and I have yet to meet a girl who isn't into him.  Recently though, I started to pay a lot of attention to his Miss Marc line, and oh boy, how I love it.

The line is fun, fresh, and embodies some very intense coolness aura.  The Miss Marc cartoon character tells a story, a story that I want to believe in and live by.  Miss Marc is fun, hip, cool, bold, and at the very forefront of fashion - someone I want to be!

Now I just need to turn myself into a cartoon character, and then, I shall conquer the world.... mwuahahaha!

Whoa... Can't Put My Finger On it, But... I think I LIKE them! (Gasp..)

I have always favored slim and elegant heels over others, but when I saw these "monstrosities", I couldn't pull myself away.  My mind kept on flashing images of me with them in different spunky outfits.... I guess that's when I know... maybe, just maybe... I might actually like them? (or maybe I can just blame this craziness on Tim Burton...)

I can't repeat this enough... but WEDGES ARE THE COOLEST.

I love shoes, I love hot shoes, I love comfortable shoes, and I definitely love hot AND comfortable shoes.  This leads me to rave about wedges.  I can't think of a better form than wedges from both consumer's and designer's perspective, and here is why:

From a consumer's point of view, wedges are probably the most comfortable high heels you can find.  They can get sky high and still feel comfortable - like you are actually walking on solid ground, instead of on a stick.  The wide range of style varieties makes outfitting a no-brainer.  Sleek dark leather wedges are appropriate for any occasions, but especially for work or the "more serious" events.  Other more playful and colorful ones can be worn to basically everything else.  Espadrille are especially comfortable, and more casual - good for a day in the sun.

and here are some cool finds.... (I just bought the SteveMadden ones... because they were on sale, and I couldn't resist!)

Now, if i put myself in a designer's perspective, I think wedges are fun to design because the sheer amount of surface area that they possess, which opens up a lot of possibilities!

Do What You Wanna Do - isn't easy, but could be

Lately, people have been giving me a lot of praise for following my passion and going back to school for design - something that only seemed natural and obvious to me.  So, it really got me thinking about the whole concept of following one's passion.  Questions like why are people so fascinated with the idea (including me), why aren't more people following their passions, and why it makes others happy to know that someone out there is, have been lingering my mind.

So I came up with some hypothesis that might explain the reactions I have been getting from people:

1.  People are nice to me, so they tell me what I want to hear while completely doubting my choice.
2.  People are truly happy for me because following one's passion is a courageous thing to do.
3.  People are happy to know that someone out there is following their heart while themselves have other constraints in life, and therefore cannot do it themselves.
4.  My decision is an inspiration for them, and has encouraged them to follow their heart as well.

My approach to this whole following my passion thing was pretty simple and direct.  I was very lost at one point, and I also was a "sell-out" because I went after money, but as soon as I was certain that what I am doing now is NOT what I want to do for the rest of my life, the whole game plan changed - I didn't linger and tried to find justifications for my "mistakes".  I do think that I was lucky because I figured out what I was passionate about at a relatively early age, and it was just a matter of going for it.  Fear and uncertainties didn't really have an effect on me because in my mind, I simply have no other options.  Period.

I tell this to my friends all the time, and it might even sound cliche, but it is absolutely true.  When you are following your heart, life has a purpose, and it is no longer going with the flow.  You will take charge of your life, and make a playground out of it.  That's a good feeling.  So don't over think, over analyze, and just DO IT.

Anna Sui = Edge, Wonders, and Surprises

Another Asian American designer worth mentioning - Anna Sui.  She has achieved so much in the past 20 years working out of her NYC apartment that it inspires me tremendously.  Her designs are incredibly fun and refreshing with a lot of edge.  I am thinking New York chic meets Punk Rock edge, or perhaps Alice and the Wonderland meets NYC Urban Culture.... Regardless, I love it!
